iTunes Running Natively in Ubuntu Linux

We all know that iTunes is available for Windows and Mac only. So for Linux users, you have to have a workaround to run iTunes and sync your iPhones, iPads, and iPods.

Here is how to run iTunes by its own in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid:

  1. Install the closed sourced VirtualBox
  2. Create a Windows XP virtual machine
  3. Install iTunes and VirtualBox Guest additions
  4. Add iTunes to startup programs
  5. Run the virtual machine in "seamless mode"
  6. Now every time you want to run iTunes, run the virtual machine.

  2. Ah, yes, seamless mode! However, I'm pretty sure you do realized that this method consumes more resources as it's running a whole other operating system in the background which is not cool! PCs without state-of-the-art specs will face lag and you know ... the things one hates!

Anyways, I just wanned to say that's WINE should deliver a better result (in terms of resources consumption) since it's a compatibility layer and not a virtualization application! I don't think it will run under WINE out of the box, but it you'd get it working after some config modification and .dll addition!

If you'd like to give it a shot without all the hassle mentioned above, you can always try out PlayOnLinux which should get it working with couple of clicks; it'll do all the dirty work!

But hey, good job! Keep it up ;)
