Microsoft to patent RSS?

One of the main rules to patent something is that it should not be obvious. You can't patent something that other people do. You can't patent, for example, writing code or browsing website or clicking on links. How many people are already using RSS? how can you come this late in the game and try to take it over?

'Network Processing Unit' or NPU

After the CPU and GPU (Central Processing Unit and Graphics Processing Unit, respectively) , someone created what is now called the NPU, or Network Processing Unit. They claim to increase traffic throughput and reduce latency, especially in games. Head to slashdot for the full article.

Whats next? I would guess one of the following:

  • MPU (Mouse processing Unit) a processor to smooth out mouse movement and calculate when and where to accelerate/decelerate the cursor?
  • KPU (Keyboard processing Unit) a processor which spellchecks and corrects typos on the fly depending on what the user is typing. imagine having your own universal spellchecking hardware.
